I seem to collect heroes. At least I have done over the last few years.
And I have a new hero. A new swimming hero.
Adam Walker is an "inspirational endurance swimmer". In 2014, 6 years after it all began with him swimming the English Channel - something I hope to soon - Adam became the first Briton and only the fifth person in the world, to swim the seven oceans challenge. By which I mean, he completed open water, long distance swims, across seven of the toughest straits in the world. Collectively known as the ocean's seven, he swam the English Channel, Strait of Gibraltar, Molokai Channel, Catalina Channel, Tsugaru Strait, Cook Strait and the Irish Channel. Now there's a challenge! It's like the swimming version of the seven summits, only - slight exaggeration alert - about a million times harder haha.
But don't worry mum! I'll be pretty happy with swimming the English Channel, I don't need to go ahead and complete the ocean's seven. Swimming the English Channel doesn't seem so bad now does it mum? haha.
Because as Adam Walker himself says "you've got to want it enough" and I don't know if I could ever want to do the seven oceans challenge enough, to put myself through the training and pain required. However, I do know that I want to swim the channel. I really, really want to swim the channel! More than anything. I am determined that I will eventually make it happen one day soon! Fingers crossed for the summer of 2017.
And then who knows. Maybe one day I can be somebodies hero? They might even right a blog about me too?
